Create some space for nature

Without pollinators, such as bees, butterflies and beetles, there will be very little to harvest. Even in the workplace, it’s important to create welcoming environments for pollinators where we can to make urban growing possible.

We can create space for nature within the tiniest of plots by including the sorts of flowers which insects love. Some dual-use crops are great for us and for the insect population—such as broad beans, blackberries, raspberries and currants. If you have more space outside your workplace, a small, sink-sized pond can attract a surprising amount of wildlife.

Could you create a window box wildflower garden to provide food for the bees? Is there room for on-site composting or a wormery? No matter what space you have available in your workplace, there is likely to be something you can do to encourage wildlife.
