Recycle the rest

You’ve reduced, you’ve redistributed, now it’s time to get recycling! Recycling is the last resort for food waste. There will always be some unavoidable waste—like banana skins and tea bags—that can’t be eaten but which shouldn’t end up in the general waste.

Bristol has several contractors who can pick up commercial food waste. Check the resources section for questions to ask when arranging your service, and look at WRAP’s guide to understand how it can work for you.

Why not compost on site? This is a great option if you produce small amounts of food waste. Compost can be used for plants on your organisation’s premises, or redistributed to colleagues.

Wormeries are an increasingly popular way of processing commercial food waste. Take a look at the Eunomia case study in the resources section to see if this could work for your organisation.
