Bristol Bites Back Better is the new campaign as part of Going for Gold – Bristol’s bid to be a Gold Sustainable Food City. Individuals, organisations, and food businesses are invited to help build a city that puts food that’s good for our health, our communities and nature at its heart.
Organisations have a key role to play through their power to influence employees, suppliers, customers, and peers to make real change towards Bristol’s good food movement. Find advice, resources, tips, and guides on the Bristol Bites Back Better website to support you to take action at your workplace. To find out more about Bristol Bites Back Better and how you and your organisation can get involved, join this introductory webinar on Tuesday 1 December, 10.30am.
Food for recovery
The pandemic and related restrictions have highlighted the central role food plays in our lives, not only during lockdown, but also as a vital part of a strong recovery. Food insecurity has been a particular challenge this year and we’ve witnessed enormous resourcefulness and kindness from individuals and organisations through emergency food provision. We also know that our food system has a huge impact on our environment.
For Bristol to #BiteBackBetter we all need to help create a food system that is greener, fairer, more resilient, and healthier.
You and your organisation can help
Your organisation, no matter the size or sector, can play a role in ensuring Bristol’s food system emerges better for people, planet, and communities.
Whatever your role, you can register your organisation’s good food actions on the Bristol Bites Back Better website. By taking part and sharing your progress using #BiteBackBetter, you will be demonstrating that your workplace is dedicated to being part of Bristol’s bid to become a Gold Sustainable Food City.
There are five priority actions for organisations to take. Under each action, there are different options for how to contribute, depending on what is going on for you and your organisation and the level of restrictions that are in place due to the pandemic.
- Support community action on food
- Give space to growing food
- Buy local
- Create a Good Food Plan
- Involve homeworkers with Bristol Bites Back Better
Don’t worry if you can’t do them all straight away, but know instead that every action you do take, now and in the future—no matter how small—is helping to build the greener, fairer and more resilient food system our city deserves.
